Instrument Cluster repair project - Sensors Ohm values

Beitrag von lucamax » Dienstag 23. Juni 2020, 08:37

After repairing my third instrument cluster of Frontera B , I have received several requests from friends of a FB group.
I own actually two petrol Frontera, a 2.2 and a 3.2 , so I can easely test if the repaired instrument cluster has correct needle position values checking it with the OBD live data.

The problem is for other models as diesel.

So I ask if anyone knows what are the OHm values for Diesel engines of :
- coolant temperature sensor when at 80 or 90 °
- Fuel gauge when at 50%

I guess that RPM signal is the same for both Gasoline and Diesel engines .

Short to ground and you can set the needles to the maximum position. This works fine at every Instrument i repaired in the past. (Some more then you repaired :anim: )

Thanks for the suggestion.
Unfortunately it does not work.

I have made some tests with a fuel gauge of another car, and curiously it seems that around 85 Ohms the temperature needle goes close to 85° while around 200 ohms goes at lowest point.

I have read that - 240-33 Ohms is the classical car fuel gauge values.
I suspect Frontera stick to classic since 200 ohms put the needle in the lower red range and 85 ohms is a little more than a quarter.

The pullups for the Sensors are in the Instrument. Set the Sensor-Signals to chassis-ground (31) before power to key-signal(15).

The Stepper in the instrument running fast in the first 30 sec. after power to the key-signal. Later the steppers running with super low speed.

For your resistance-research: there are differences in the Sensor depending on the model-year.

I follow your advice and it works :)
So fuel and temperature can be set without knowing the real Ohm value of the gauge, very useful
Thanks !
